Description:
In May 1993 Fritz began phasing in a new process for the application of a "seal coating" over the top of our terrazzo tile manufactured at out Mesquite, Texas facility.
UV curable resin and acrylate monomers are applied to the tile by roll coater. The tile then passes through UV lights that cure and harden the surface coating. 1993 emissions are estimated to be down 78% to 15,000 lbs. 1994 emissions are projected to be under 1,000 lbs. (99% reduction).
P2 Application:
A roll coater commonly used in the furniture industry was employed with a redesigned roll for use in our UV application. We designed our own UV cure lamp stations. Transfer efficiency is nearly 100% since there is no overspray.
Environmental Benefits:
The primary beenfit to the environment will be the reduction and eventual elimination of the emission of EPA "target" chemicals in this process. Other harmful emissions will also be eliminated.
Details of Reductions
Additional Information :
This UV curable resin process results in terrazzo tile with greater stain resistance, more durable and with a brighter and glossier appearance. Cost savings are approximately $26,000 per year which results in a 2 year Return On Investment.
