Description:
CMI has worked through its vendors to receive raw materials in returnable containers wherever possible. CMI now gets 90% of all chemical deliveries in returnable totes.
Environmental Benefits:
CMI has reduced the number of drums that it had to dispose of by about 250 drums a year. Before disposal, drums had to be rinsed. By eliminating disposal CMI has reduced wastewater generation by 45,000 gallons a year.

Additional Information :
Purchasing chemicals in returnable totes saves money in several ways. Chemicals can now be purchased at bulk rates, there is less handling since totes hold more product, and there are no disposal or clean up costs with empty drums. CMI estimates that it saves $5,000 a year by going to returnable totes.
