Following are a set of P2 options you may wish to implement. No option is perfect for everyone, but sometimes options that have worked at one facility can work at yours. They might also serve as inspiration.

Following are a list of options that have been reviewed by pollution prevention specialists.
These options have worked at other facilities and may work at yours.
Hydraulic fluids waste
Introduce into production stream at facility where generated.
Reduce spent solvents
Use biodegradable, water-based solvents or soap cleaners.
Substitute non-hazardous surfactants (soap) for solvents (mineral spirits) for equipment cleaning.
Use up all solvent in containers; ensure that no residues remain.
Minimize amount of solvent being lost during cleaning or maintenance (e.g., use drip pans to collect solvent for reuse).
Clean equipment with high-pressure water, steam, or nontoxic solvents.
Keep solvent containers tightly covered to decrease loss due to vaporization.
Use inventory control to minimize volume of unnecessary solvent stored.
Use dirty solvent for initial cleaning and clean solvent for final cleaning.
Reduce used oil
Minimize the volume of lubricating oil by extending its use.
Test oil and extend its use based on wear versus accumulated operating hours. [Note: Many lubricating oil suppliers offer testing service at no charge.)
Use oil purification equipment
Install lubricating oil purification equipment on engines to eliminate the need for lubricating oil changes.
Reuse lubricating oil
Contract with service company to purify and regenerate oil for reuse rather than replacing with new lubricating oil.
Use oil additives
Use oil additives that improve engine and oil performance.
Practice prentative maintenance
Practice preventative maintenance to reduce leaks and drips.
